How to Change Your Address With Social Security & Medicare

Video: How to Change Your Address With Social Security & Medicare

Once you’re receiving some sort of benefits (either Social Security, Medicare, or both), you’ll have the ability to update your home address on file with the government, if needed.

If You Move, Here’s Why You Should Update your Address With the Social Security Administration…

If you change your address with the Social Security Administration, it will also change it with Medicare.

But if you change your address with Medicare, it only updates it with Medicare…NOT with the Social Security Administration

So it’s really best to just update the address once through the Social Security Administration, which will make the change with Medicare, if relevant in your situation.

Here’s what it looks like in your sSA.gov account

Login or create an account at www.ssa.gov, and then update your address in the “My Profile” section of your account dashboard.

From there, you can click on your Contact information and make the updates. Follow the prompts to make it official.

Note: Updating your address with the United States Postal Service will NOT update your address with Social Security or Medicare.
