Whether you’re enrolling in Medicare at age 65 or a later date, we always suggest creating a My Social Security online account. Having this login will make your transition to Medicare a little bit easier.
For step-by-step instructions, please watch our video on how to create an account.
Aside from completing an enrollment application for Medicare online, one of the biggest benefits is your ability to pull up your Benefit Verification Letter. This letter shows your Medicare Number and Medicare Part A & B start dates, which is very helpful when enrolling in Medicare very close to your desired transition date. You can access this faster online than you can receive your Medicare card via US mail.
Once you have an account, here are all the things you can do:
If you are NOT receiving any benefits (i.e. Social Security, Medicare)...
Enroll in Medicare benefits
Enroll in Social Security benefits
Access your Social Security benefit statement
Get estimates for retirement benefits, based on different scenarios
Check your application status (for Social Security or Medicare benefits)
Request a replacement Social Security card
If you ARE receiving Social Security and/or Medicare benefits (or were just approved)...
Print a Benefit Verification Letter showing proof of Social Security and/or Medicare benefits
Access your Medicare Number
Print your most recent Social Security 1099 (Form SSA-1099)
Request a replacement Medicare card
Request a replacement Social Security card
Change your address
